Parma Apennines and Lunigiana
The Parma Apennines and Lunigiana are a mountainous region in northern Italy, stretching between the province of Parma, in Emilia-Romagna, and Lunigiana, a historic area of Tuscany. This area is part of the Apennine chain, which runs through Italy from north to south.
Parma Apennines: This area takes in the mountains and hills of the province of Parma. It is characterised by varied natural landscapes, with forests, meadows, rivers and lakes. The area is known for its nature parks, such as the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, and for the opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, trekking and skiing in winter.
Lunigiana: Lunigiana is a historic and geographical region straddling the provinces of Massa-Carrara in Tuscany and La Spezia in Liguria. It is famous for its medieval villages, its castles and its cultural traditions. Lunigiana takes its name from the ancient Roman city of Luni, which stood near the mouth of the river Magra. This area too is characterised by a mountainous and hilly landscape, with many streams and green valleys.
The Parma Apennines and Lunigiana are therefore an area rich in history, culture and natural beauty, offering many opportunities for tourism and outdoor activities.
