Introduction: This is a route that is not too demanding; above all the climb, being gradual, lets you spread the almost 600 metres of height gain evenly over the 4 kilometres of the route. It is a route suitable for teenagers too and, all in all, one of great panoramic satisfaction. The climb to Monte Porche can be combined with other summits such as the Sibilla or the nearby Cima di Palazzo Borghese.

Route features: A route that runs almost entirely on gravel track and traces of path. With no particular difficulties, it is a route within reach of children from 9 years upwards and of teenagers. In winter the snow-covered gravel track can be long, boring and tiring because of too much snow.

Monte Prata, the starting point of this hike, can also be reached on foot with the traverse from Frontignano to Monte Prata by the Passo Cattivo.

Route description

From the large open space of Monte Prata you follow the gravel road the shepherds use to move their livestock. The gravel road comes close to two fenced plots of land where sheep are reared and kept. The guard dogs are not too dangerous; most of the time they just bark. The important thing is to keep a safe distance from the animals.
Once you get close to the pens you are at the foot of the mountain. With the mountain in front of you, you curve to the left, slowly gaining height on a little path that climbs steadily up the mountain's ridge. In places the path is full of small stones that make it slippery. After two hairpin bends the path reaches a little saddle from which two branches of the path split off. You carry on east, that is (with the mountain in front of you) to the right. Once close to the ridge line between Monte Porche and Cima di Palazzo Borghese you turn sharply north (left) and, on stones, you climb to the summit with a last, not too demanding push.
