Definition of hypoxia (ipossia): lack or reduction of oxygen to the brain. At high altitude the density of oxygen is greatly reduced, which means that less oxygen circulates in the blood than the brain needs. If the brain does not receive the right amount of oxygen, it goes into so-called "hypoxia" (little oxygen). The consequences of prolonged hypoxia can be very serious indeed.

Fact sheet

Definition

A physiological state of oxygen deficiency in the blood and consequently in the cells of the body. At high altitude hypoxia is due to the drop in atmospheric pressure. In fact, in
low-pressure conditions the red blood cells can no longer properly bind the oxygen in the air. Hypoxia damages and seriously affects, first of all, the brain and the ability to reason.
