Mountain biking in Lombardy and Canton Ticino

Redazione 15/06/2011 Reads: 1

A detailed and complete mountain bike guide that fully covers the north-western part of Lombardy, from Lake Maggiore to Lake Como, and southern Canton Ticino. A vast and ever-changing area, stretching from the mountain slopes of the Prealps to the hills of the foothills, to the heights of the Triangolo Lariano, almost reaching the Po plain. A region rich in areas that are still wild and all waiting to be discovered in the saddle of your knobbly-tyred steed.

The book sets out to be an invitation to ride MTB, combining the sport with the history and culture of the places you pass through, without ever losing the rhythm, and pairing fun with knowledge.

The guide contains a thorough technical introduction to mountain bike touring in the provinces of Como and Varese, notes on equipment, training and trip preparation. The 62 routes come with photographs, maps, fact sheets and elevation profiles, never skimping on ample descriptions of the routes and cultural information. Special credit goes to the publisher, who has paid particular attention to the details of this practical 15x21 cm edition, easy to handle; this format allows the right space for the photos, the content and the fact sheets without being too bulky for the mountain biker who wants to carry it along.

THE AUTHORS:

Luca DeFranco
From the Varese area, a geologist and journalist, he has always loved and frequented the mountains. He is an active ski mountaineer, hiker and mountain biker. Professionally he deals with pollution problems and the management of areas at risk. He has taken part in environmental projects in Italy and abroad (Save the Glaciers and Levissima for Everest). He is a regular correspondent for the Ticino magazine “Vivere la montagna”. He has published two guides devoted to Canton Ticino: one on ski mountaineering and one on mountain biking.

Matteo Gattoni
He lives on the “slopes” of the Triangolo Lariano, where he works as an architect. Thirty years of life, all lived on two wheels; after a past as a racer he began to explore the mountains around him as a mountain biker. His passion for MTB and for “his” land led him to discover the places described in this guide.

For riding in the Apennines see the guide Monti Lepini: 22 escursioni a piedi e 6 in MTB (22 hikes on foot and 6 by MTB).
