It does not stand on very high peaks; we are talking about mountains that barely top 2000 metres. That does not mean the area and the hut deserve to be ignored. Quite the opposite... The hut, very well kept, lies in a splendid area and in a strategic position for organising long rides along the ridges, linking up with Rifugio Coppo dell'Orso as well.
At the gates of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, perched on the mountains of the Serralunga that separate the Valle Roveto from the Piana del Fucino, stands the historic Sant'Elia hut. Once a shelter for shepherds, today it is a welcoming building, running on solar power, set at the centre of a dense network of paths that link the splendid meadow of the same name to some of the finest natural and cultural treasures of our area.
The hut can be reached by car: a mountain road from the village leads all the way to the Sant'Elia meadows.
From the hut you can do various hikes, treks, mountain-bike outings, walks in the woods, outdoor activities…
The hut can be used during the “Via dei Marsi” trek, from Avezzano to Pescasseroli, in the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.
How to reach us
From Piazza San Rocco, Collelongo. From here follow the easy signs for the hut.
The hut is rented out at a rough cost of 90/100 euros a night, which, split among several hikers, really is an affordable cost...
In the heart of the Park you can carry on with the hike to Monte Forcone, Marsicano and Monte Ninna.
