Rifugio Perugia is in an excellent position for planning long treks and traverses taking in Pian Grande and the southern side of the Monti Sibillini.
Of those we have visited, this hut is perhaps one of the best kept in the central Apennines. A welcoming restaurant with a big fireplace whets the hiker's appetite with a variety of dishes of great gastronomic interest. The cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms is impeccable.
We were pleasantly struck by the professional management and the kind welcome.

Notes: The landscape of Pian Grande in fact has lines, landforms and dominant colours of indescribable beauty; and if the former are its structural constants, the colours are instead variables of extraordinary interest, able to create deeply different situations, constantly changing through the sequence of the high Apennine seasons.
For a demanding hike in the same area see Monte Vettore from Forca di Presta by the normal route.
