Rifugio Vincenzo Sebastiani is one of the Apennine huts best known to hikers, like the even better known Rif. Franchetti on the Gran Sasso and Rif. Angelo Sebastiani on the Terminillo.
The hut stands below the summit of the Costone, on a saddle shared with the summit of Capo di Pezza, a very panoramic position overlooking the magnificent and, for now, still wild Piani di Pezza and the green Valle del Puzzillo.
For hiking it is strategically placed in the heart of the Monte Velino group, handy for traverses of the Velino, lengthwise and crosswise.
An excellent welcome and excellent management from the young people of the Cooperativa Equorifugio.

What to know before going up to the hut
The hut is staffed and open only in summer: out of season you can count on neither meals nor beds. Places are few, so if you want to stay the night it is best to book well in advance by contacting the Cooperativa Equorifugio; management and contact details may change over time, so check them before you set off. The kitchen serves local produce.
Watch out for water: the water available at the hut is not drinkable, so bring enough for the climb and for the following day, if you stay. From the hut you can easily reach the summit of Monte Costone, Punta Trento e Trieste and the Costa della Tavola, and it is the natural base for traversing the group. For a complete itinerary see the high traverse of Monte Velino from Piani di Pezza or the ascent of Cimata Puzzillo via the hut.
