they have managed to make intelligent use of the land without spoiling it.
There is a hotel, on the slopes of Monte Amiata, called "Le Macinaie". They have been hoteliers for over forty years and do their job with a unique passion.
The hotel is surrounded by the beech wood of Monte Amiata, the largest beech wood in central Italy. It is not the usual mountain hotel where you get bored the whole time. At "Le Macinaie"
they have managed to make intelligent use of the land with full respect for the surrounding nature.
At "Le Macinaie" you can hire mountain bikes, get directions for hikes, ask to join organised hikes, and eat typical produce of
southern Tuscany. In a strategic position, the hotel is not far from many attractions such as the Terme di Saturnia hot springs and Monte Amiata, and in winter you can get to
the ski slopes right next to the hotel.
The staff are courteous, well prepared and outgoing, and will get you involved in plenty of activities without ever letting your time drift by in boredom. Something you do not easily find
everywhere is that the hotel "Le Macinaie" is ready to welcome coeliacs. Your pets are welcome too...
