Mountains, animals and traditions of the Cimbri
The calling card of this beautiful book is certainly the introduction written by the very well-known Mario Rigoni Stern. A collection of stories this intense can only be the fruit of research, study, work and probably life lived.
The life of the Cimbri, "tzimbar" or woodcutters, a people of very ancient origins: the Cimbri descend from the Teutonic peoples who migrated to that part of Italy lying between the Veneto and Trentino.
The text is masterfully written, not simple, at times poetic, of a refinement that left me decidedly amazed. Not only fragile mountain stories, but also a language, Italian, of a kind you haven't read in books for a long time, because Italian, the language, is all too often being lost.
This book is the latest marvellous effort of the Biblioteca dell'Immagine.
From the back cover:
There still exists today a small village of three hundred souls on the Asiago plateau, on the Trentino side, where the inhabitants speak an ancient language.
Its inhabitants are the Cimbri... They live in contact with nature. They live among the trees, in the middle of the woods, close to the mountains.
"That's how we Cimbri are. And these are our experiences, our traditions, our true stories."
