Introduction: Monte del Papa is often called Monte Sirino, which is actually the name of the mountain group. An anonymous and very rounded summit set among interesting and little-known mountains. The hike by the normal route is not very appealing; the other routes, which call for a thorough knowledge of the area, are more interesting.

Route features:  The route described here runs alongside the ski runs on easy dirt tracks (and only in summer, when walking on the runs is not forbidden).
On this route waymarking to the summit is hardly needed.

Before or after the climb, the nearby Lago Laudemio is worth a visit.

The summit is one of the peaks described in the guidebook I 2000 dell'Appennino by Alberto Osti Guerrazzi.

Route description

Level with a large building bearing the sign “Laudemio 1575 m) you can spot the chairlift pylons. Keep to the left of the lift, passing underneath it. Here a road, which is really a ski run, climbs up to a wooden hut. First stop after a middling effort. You carry on until you find a dirt track used for the chairlift maintenance work. You carry on to the saddle where you find the top station of the ski lift. Carry on to the right of the saddle up a grassy slope with no waymarks or path. You climb until you reach the fore-summit of Monte del Papa. From here you can see, some fifty metres away, the real summit of Monte del Papa, which you can reach in just 2 minutes.

Notes on effort and difficulty

Modest effort both in height gain and in the length of the route. Misleading impressions of distance due to the shape of the bowl formed by the mountain.
