Knowing, recognising and observing the species...

For those who like to spend time in the mountains, a good handbook for recognising flowers can be really very useful.
DeAgostini offers an excellent guide with no fewer than 500 excellent photographs of countless species typical of the Alps and the other mountains of Europe.
General notions and very well organised information sheets, for a book with a really competitive price.
Recommended for hikers and mountaineers who spend time in the mountain environment.

For a first taste, have a look at the gallery Distese di Fiori in Appennino (carpets of flowers in the Apennines).

Who it is for and how to use it on the path

It is a guide designed for identification in the field: the photographs and the information sheets help you put a name to what you meet along the path, rather than to study botany systematically. Since the book is devoted to the Alps and the mountains of Europe, those who mostly walk in the Apennines will find many common species but not all the local or endemic ones: for those, it is best to add material dedicated to your own area.

Remember that many mountain flowers are protected: the best way to take them home is a photograph, leaving the plants where they are. For more pictures of flowers taken during our hikes, see the gallery Fiori Vari di Montagna (assorted mountain flowers).
