Instructions for building our memory

Without the mountains water would be dead, nor would it be possible to draw from it the vital resources we all know. Without the mountains the earth would be covered by a uniform desert. From these simple premises, as part of the activities for spreading scientific and technological culture promoted by the Ministry of Education, University and Research, a programme has been launched that aims to involve Italian schools in becoming aware of the cultural, economic, environmental and scientific values of water in the mountain environment. To this end this Quaderno (notebook) has been prepared, which is not meant to be an instruction booklet, but rather a stimulus for curiosity and creativity, which lie at the root of all knowledge.

A simple, effective book, as clear as water…

Vittorio Marchis is a full professor at the Politecnico di Torino, where he teaches History of Technology. For almost twenty years he has been studying the contexts of contemporary society, with particular attention to the dynamics of both productive and social development. Author of some 500 scientific papers and essays, as well as radio and television programmes, he has served on numerous ministerial committees in the fields of scientific research policy, cultural heritage and the spread of culture.
