Rifugio Casale da Monte (Monte Velino)

Renovated in 2007, Rifugio Casale da Monte is a wonderful building able to take in a large number of visitors. The building is really imposing and stands at the foot of Monte Cafornia, a short distance from the entrance to the Valle Majelama.
The valley stays closed for much of the year, from 15 February to 15 August, yet the area offers a great many hiking opportunities.

Located about 3 kilometres from Forme and 3 kilometres from Massa d'Albe, it is excellently placed as well as run with passion and dedication.

Reached along a short stretch of dirt road, the hut also opens in winter on request and offers discounts to groups and CAI members.

The hut stands at about 1150 metres above sea level, in the Velino group, between Massa d'Albe and the entrance to the Valle Majelama. It has 20 beds, a restaurant with a menu of local produce, and drinking water. The fact sheet gives it as open only in summer, while the text reports openings on request in winter too: we recommend contacting the managers before setting off, also to confirm opening times and prices.

It is a good starting point for climbing Monte Velino, Monte Cafornia, Monte Magnola and Monte Bicchero, as well as for walking the Valle Majelama, remembering to check the valley's closure period in advance.
