A horrible concrete barracks of a building set in an incredible spot. A strong contrast, but in some ways an evocative one. The hut can be reached by car both from Casali (Ussita) and from Bolognola, by two gravel roads that are very rough in places but still passable.
The hut / restaurant stands on the saddle where the gravel road linking Casali to Bolognola crosses over, and it is the ideal place to stop if you are doing a traverse. Its position is also ideal for hikes to the summits of Pizzo Tre Vescovi, Pizzo Regina (or Monte della Priora), Pizzo Berro and Monte Rotondo.
An easy objective nearby is the easy hike to Monte Acuto.
What to know before you go
- Location: about 1800 metres, on the saddle between Casali di Ussita and Bolognola, in the heart of the Monti Sibillini.
- Opening: staffed only in summer, with food and 14 beds. There is no winter room, so out of season it should not be counted on as a base.
- Water: there is drinking water at the hut.
- Conditions: in our fact sheet the state of the building and the upkeep of the surroundings come out as poor, cleanliness as fair.
- By car: the gravel access roads are passable but should be tackled with care, especially after heavy rain.
