Ristoro Mucciante

A place that for some years now has become a true legend. The Ristoro Mucciante is a wooden building on the state road that leads from Castel del Monte to Fonte Vetica.
A meeting place for campers, motorhome people, bikers, hikers and mountaineers, the Ristoro Mucciante has a charm that lies not only in the wide and marvellous panorama with its view of Monte Camicia; the charm is not in the beauty of the building (anonymous); the magic lies entirely in the atmosphere that builds up on spring days, on holidays (Saturday and Sunday) and for most of the summer.

Always open during the month of August, at the Ristoro Mucciante you can buy local meat from the Campo Imperatore farms (pork, lamb).
The fun lies in being able to cook the meat on the spot and eat it at the wooden tables.

The butcher sees to lighting the embers in special troughs adapted for cooking arrosticini (lamb skewers). Larger grills and fires are also available.

It's a party that comes round every year on fine sunny days. Great numbers of travellers, passers-by and customers crowd in to eat Abruzzo arrosticini, lamb chops, pork steaks and bruschetta.
Yes, bruschetta indeed, because at the Ristoro Mucciante you can buy bread and oil. You scrounge the salt from someone who always brings a bit extra... the wine, the cheese, the salami and a few ciambelline to dunk in the wine at the end of the meal.

It's a must for those who love company, in a high-mountain setting, with that touch of the rowdy and the festive.

Warning: get up early... a seat to eat at and a lit grill are guaranteed if you arrive by 11.30 in the morning at the latest.

Once you've eaten, you leave the table and your place to the many tourists and carry on towards nearby Castel del Monte, Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Rocca Calascio.
This slice of mountain really has a lot to offer everyone.
