Anyone who wants to start running in view of physically demanding hikes will come up against quite a few difficulties.
However most of them, at least for people in good health, will be mainly psychological.

The main obstacle is the (apparent) lack of time to set up a training session in which to go running. Besides the mere problem of organisation you come up against, especially at the beginning, the inertia of daily life: laziness. Once laziness and the organisational problem have been overcome, all you need is to set up a small (written) programme like the one in the outline below. Write or print out your training programme. It is a little psychological trick to start committing yourself. Writing a training programme by hand helps above all to fix in your mind the idea that training is progressive. In the first month you will need to increase, week after week, the number of minutes spent running. The aim is to loosen up a stiff body and get all the metabolic mechanisms going again, which during a sedentary life are dormant if not absent altogether.
