A hut in a strategic position on the saddle linking Monte Vettore and Cima di Prato Pulito. The Rifugio Zilioli is a stone building from the 1960s, physically not very large.
It is in fact an excellent base for anyone wanting to do multi-day winter traverses, for example from Forca di Presta to Foce.
Inside, the hut is lined with wood and in its upper room you can sleep, although there are no mattresses or blankets.
The hut was renovated in July 2004; it can be used by booking from 1 May to 30 November.
The small winter room always stays open and (although it is rather damp and smelly) can always be used as an emergency shelter in case of blizzards.
What to know before you go
- Type of building: unstaffed shelter at about 2250 metres, looked after by the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) of Perugia, with 4 beds and no food service.
- What to bring: there is no water and there are no mattresses or blankets, so you need a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat and all the water you will need.
- In winter: the winter room is an emergency shelter, not a comfortable place to spend the night.
- Hikes: from the saddle you can reach Cima di Prato Pulito, Cima del Lago, Cima del Redentore, the Lago di Pilato and the summit of the Vettore.
