Introduction: A compulsory summit for Club 2000m collectors, Monte Acuto is really not very interesting (it is also the lowest of the Sibillini 2000ers), aesthetically anonymous in itself; however it offers a truly breathtaking view over the valleys below: the Valle del Fargno (which leads to Bolognola) and the Valle dell'Ambro.

Route characteristics: A short path, perfectly marked by the tread of hikers. Just before the top there's a short little passage where you need to use hands and feet.

From the same saddle you can also climb the nearby Pizzo Tre Vescovi from Rifugio del Fargno.

Route description

Starting from Rifugio del Fargno you can clearly make out the two summits of Pizzo Tre Vescovi and Monte Acuto. The ascent of these two summits is usually combined into a single day's hiking. You follow the path that branches off the dirt road across the slope on the northern side of the mountain. The path is exposed in places but never really dangerous. If you bring children, at some points you need to hold their hand to be sure they don't lose their balance. Once at the saddle between the two summits (Pizzo Tre Vescovi and Monte Acuto) you head east towards the obvious sharp ridge of this little mountain.

As you approach Monte Acuto the path disappears, giving way to meadows on sloping ground broken up by small rocks. After passing a rocky spur you quickly reach the summit. The ridge is roomy but drops away fast towards the two valleys below. The Valle dell'Ambro, where the Fiume Ambro rises, is wide, green and panoramic. The Valle del Fargno, where the Fiume Fiastrone rises; the Fiastrone flows north-east until it forms the better-known Lago di Fiastra, a wonderful stretch of water set among the mountains.
